Our Expertise

On the breakdown of any relationship, there are four areas of potential dispute (where you may want legal advice and representation):
What is to happen to the children? How money, property and your incomes are to be dealt with; domestic abuse (if this is happening in a relationship); and divorce (if you are married) or separation agreement.
Where couples are married, then their finances can be dealt with by agreement between themselves or in court proceedings. This may involve pension 'sharing'; maintenance (including child support), lump sum and property adjustment.
Where a relationship breaks down, there may be disagreement about how children are to be looked after (residence, contact and other issues). A specialist aspect of children law relates to care proceedings where we have particular expertise (including Law Society Children Panel membership).
Where couples are not married, they may need advice both as to how they should own property where they first acquire property together; or how they should deal with their property when their relationship breaks down. This may raise particular difficulties in law in connection with implied trusts and other legal principles on which we are well able to advise and represent clients in court.
Partly arising from experience with child support but also from the firm’s interest in Human Rights and dealing with public bodies in family proceedings, we have developed an expertise in acting for individuals against public bodies in judicial review.
We have particular expertise in dealing with the difficult matter of child support: advising on calculations, representation before Tribunals, the High Court and other courts; and advice on difficult statutory provisions.
